Typo3: version 4.2 of the free CMS is faster and more user friendly

Thirteen months after the previous release, the Typo3 developer team has released a new version of the free content management software. The back-end restructuring that began with Typo3 4.0 is now complete. The Cleaner Backend Project was aimed at creating a cleaner design for the administrator interface and making it more user friendly. Beginning with this version, the free CMS only supports PHP 5.2.0 or higher. Version 4 of the scripting language has served its time.

Text editing in the editor interface now works with Apple's Safari browser. Also, the rich text editor can be extended with new functions using a new plug-in API. An improved Typoscript editor in the template module of the new version is able to do syntax highlighting and can handle code blocks. Various improvements to caching ensure smoother operation. Typo3 4.2 is available for download on the project website. The release notes detail changes and updates.
