New version of the free Linux Media Centre MythTV

The developers of MythTV, the open source media centre for Linux, have published version 0.21. The main innovations are parallel recording of multiple shows broadcast on a single multiplex with only one DVB card, and support for several "storage groups", which Linux VDR has also supported for some time.

MythTV also now supports audio up-mixing 5.1, time-stretching, and the conversion of DTS to AC3 (Dolby Digital) on the fly. The integrated UPnP AV media server has been expanded and now works with Windows Media Player 11 (under Vista), Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. For further details, see the Release Notes.

The source code can be downloaded, and binary packages will soon be updated for all major distributions. Those who want to safely take a closer look at MythTV, or set up their own dedicated MythTV system, will be interested in the tailor-made mini distributions such as KnoppMyth, MiniMyth and MythTV-XBOX,
