How to use RSS
Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a technology you can use to have information sent to you, rather than having to go and look for it. Many web sites, among them heise Security, offer RSS feeds to deliver their latest headlines to you. To access these feeds in a readable format, you need an RSS reader/aggregator. There are three main ways to use an RSS aggregator: a client-based application, a plug-in for your browser, or a web script that runs on your website.
- Blogspace has a good list of Windows/Linux/Mac clients, many of them freeware.
- Firefox displays the headlins of RSS Feeds in the bookmark menu. To subscribe to a feed click on the orange icon in the address bar. If you look for a full-fledged RSS Reader, try an Extension like the Wizz RSS News Reader Wizz RSS News Reader. Internet Explorer has a built-in RSS Reader. To subscribe to a feed click on the orange icon in the tab bar.
