Big Brother 4.0 brings a flash interface to network management

Quest Software has begun marketing the new version 4.0 of Big Brother. This network, host and applications monitor is available for Windows as well as various Linux and Unix platforms, and can use Oracle, SQL Server or MySQL as its database management system. The new flash interface, which works with any web browser, is designed to give system administrators quick information coded in red and green about the status of their IT infrastructure, grouped for example geographically, by department, or by application.

Innovations include the integration of Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) and an agent for Mac OS X. More than 200 new plug-ins, catering for products by Blackberry, Cisco, Citrix, F5, Juniper, Nortel, Veritas, VMWare and others, are designed to guarantee a complete overview. Anyone who can't completely map his equipment park using the standard Big Brother package despite all its extensions won't normally need to search very far, because Big Brother enjoys support from a large cohort of users who can probably provide extensions for all possible devices with network connections free of charge.
