Yahoo publishes do-it-yourself search engine

Yahoo has introduced SearchMonkey, a service that allows website operators to create a customised search engine. The service is based on Yahoo data, to which the operator's own web services are added. For instance, a cross-site search can be created that provides an address, rating, or stock price for each hit.

A setup wizard is provided to guide users through the steps of designing a custom search engine. The resulting PHP code can be edited directly for fine tuning. SearchMonkey also provides a wizard that supports setup of related Web services.
