Windows Home Server patched – but only for one bug

Microsoft has eliminated a bug in the back-up process of its Windows Home Server which can lead to NTFS compressed files not being backed up correctly on the server. Any attempt to restore these files results in corrupted data. A patch is available for download from the Knowledge Base article 950190. It should be installed on all computers with Windows Home Server Connector software installed. Home Server itself is not affected by the issue.

Other parts of Windows Home Server also seem to have been thrown together in a hurry, judging by another troublesome bug that can cause loss of data when certain programs are used to edit or transfer files stored on a Windows Home Server-based computer. Although this bug makes a nonsense of the file server principle, users will have to wait until June for a fix. That is how long it is expected to take for a bug fix in the shape of the first major update known as Powerpack 1.
