Windows Server 2008 remote administration tools for Vista released
Microsoft has made both 32 bit and 64 bit versions of its Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) for Windows Vista SP1 available to download for free. The tools are aimed at administrators who want to be able to configure a server from a Vista workstation. RSAT is the successor to adminpak.msi, familiar from Windows Server 2003 and included on the Server 2003 installation CD.
The package does not install the new Server Manager, which functions as a control centre in Windows Server 2008. Instead it contains the separate administration tools, as used in Windows Server 2003, for procedures such as administering Active Directory.
Microsoft lists the tools included on its blog. It includes the GPMC console, which can be used to manage group policies in Active Directory. The program was originally included with Vista, but disappeared with SP1. RSAT brings users back up to date with the current version.
