Adobe offers cloud computing services

Adobe has brought out the beta version of a service platform they are calling Cocomo – not to be confused with the algorithmic software cost estimation model of the same name – that will enable the creation of social apps that can then be integrated into existing applications. Flash applications created under the Flex framework will be able to use functions such as VoIP, webcam, chat, file sharing and user management.

The client components are available to developers who register with Adobe. Following the current trend towards cloud computing, the service infrastructure is being hosted on Adobe servers. Adobe defines this as a 'platform as a service', promising that Cocomo clients won't themselves have to worry about technical stuff like deployment, maintenance and scalability. Cocomo has already been used in Adobe Acrobat 9 and Reader 9.
